Vintage Tuxedo 1930-46 (Depression, WWII)
Throughout the Depression and World War II era, tuxedo tailcoats were the preferred dress for the majority of formal occasions, and were worn with a waistcoat and tie. While widespread poverty and War dominated the news, Hollywood was setting the style.
Dark Tuxedos in black and midnight blue with either rolled collars faced in silk or notched collars were popular. Waistcoats were usually white. Double-breasted styles took hold in the 1930s and from the late 1920s on, some men replaced the cummerbund for the waistcoat.
